Barney has some food allergies

Veterinarians find food allergies frustrating. The pet may scratch and chew the pads of their feet . The major step in treatment is to switch to a hypoallergenic diet. Often we try a duck, venison or alternate protein dietary source with sweet potato. Also, a regime of allergy testing and hyposensitization may be suggested.

Yesterday, when we checked out Barney, a cute cocker spaniel, we were glad that his allergies were quite mild. Barney was chosen to be a candidate for a food elimination trial. Of course this is always a sacrifice for the owners who must follow a strict food diet using only one chosen source of protein. So what one asks? This means no treats!!

Oh!Oh! and we need to follow this regime for at least 4 months.The things we do for love.
